The hunt
The three companions stepped out onto the mountain pass to be greeted by Aswude Aswad. The couple smiled and proceeded to watch as Aswad adeptly taught each companion in turn how to ride and to look after their own mount. The two waited for their own course of instruction. Casually, Dudenemus sauntered over to the couple to show off his new mountain horse, Black Jet, and get an inkling of some news.
Bleu and Athenian could see that the two - horse and rider - were bonding well and of course inseparable, both highly delighted to be together. Dudenemus the Fair One was leading the black horse by his reins, the warrior talking quietly to his new mate. He smiled and introduced Athenian and Bleu shyly to his mount, Black Jet.
Bleu stood up respectfully, putting out his right hand, palm face down, outstretched. Jetâs senses took in Bleu and he nuzzled and then whickered in a friendly way at both of them; telling both men that Jet accepted and liked Bleu Chanomulus.
Both men agreed that he was a fine mountain horse and this time Lady Athenian stood up, hand outstretched, palm upwards to be accepted by the horse of Dudenemus. Jet instinctively liked her and nuzzled her for a crunchy morsel, as Lady Athenian turned in the direction of Marcenus, the dwarf. He also led his mountain horse up to the companions to show off his Firebrandian.
Dudenemus the Fair One said, âMarcenus has been trained to ride Fireglow with a good, skilful hand. He is a fine, light, mountain horse that is intelligent, wiry, small but with bags of personality and also clever. He has a good disposition, that is if in the right hands. His colour is a reddish brown as you can see and Marcenus is over the moon with him.â
The couple looked at Marcenus and at the mountain horse and they both carefully weighed up Aswad Aswudeâs choice of mount for Marcenus. The two nodded and jointly agreed with the choice - an elfin horse that understood Marcenus.
âA good steed for the good dwarf,â said Dudenemus. Turning, he pointed in the direction of Angus Mcullus and said, âThis mount of Angus is again a well-bred mountain horse. He is bred for strength, speed and stamina. He is intelligent too. His colour is golden brown and he is an elite horse.â He paused and said, âI believe he is well suited for Angus Mcullus.â
Turning in the direction of Patum, the friend of Aswude, Dudenemus said, âThe horse being instructed with the rider is Polaeus, a light bay. Both horse and rider have spontaneously taken to each other.â
Bleu was pleased to hear these words as he found Patum warm, kind and good natured, although he could sometimes take time to surface in the morning. He preferred to stay up late, talking into the early hours of the morn with friends, associates and colleagues about topics of philosophy, music and the like. Bleu, innocently pointing, said, âWho is that chestnut mare over there for?â
The Fair One said, âThat is the mount of Lady Athenian.
